The Carson Piper collection consists of both original and published material pertaining to a broad expanse of the history of Northwestern Ontario, concentrating primarily on early fur trading and settlement activities. It is arranged into 12 series by record type. The first and eleventh series contain material relating to Mr. Piper's activities as president and member of the Thunder Bay Historical Society. Most of the rest of the collection contains pamphlets, articles and reports published between 1763 and 1951.

The Blake-McNaughten collection consists of both original documents, mostly pertaining to the business of the City of Fort William, Ontario, and a research collection of clippings and information on the history of the Lakehead (primarily Fort William). The collection also includes some documents relating to the Mount McKay Golf Club and the Old Timer's Club. It is arranged into eight series by producer with one, A 47/7, for small miscellaneous items.

The Ross Munro Matthews fonds consists of the unpublished personal memoirs of Ross Munro Matthews, entitled "Oft in the Stilly Night", written for his family. Recounts his growing up in early Thunder Bay, an anecdotal description of Walpole Roland, and accounts of cottage days on Silver Islet, the Cross family, the McKirdys of Nipigon, J.T. Emmerson of Port Arthur, Martha Dickinson (the first female City Clerk in Canada), I.L. Matthews, Harwood Matthews, the Munro family, Morson S. Fotheringham and Ross Matthews himself. Includes family tree. This is particularly good on descriptions of familial relationships and childhood in early Thunder Bay.

The Keith Denis collection consists of six series dealing with his interests in Thunder Bay's history, in particular its 19th century history. Contains mainly research files, ephemera, publications, and some of the records of his business from 1937-1944 selling orange juice.

Fonds consists of the records of the John Wilson Robertson family of Fort William. Includes the papers of John Wilson, his sons John Martin Robertson, J.A. Robertson, and Edwin L. Robertson, along with some items from his granddaughter, Belle Caroline Pudas and great granddaughter, Allane Pudas. The collection is divided into three series: John Wilson's papers, those of John Martin and those of the rest of the family.

The Fred Stephenson collection consists of one scrapbook entitled "History of Playground Movement in Fort William" compiled by Fred Stephenson. Contains newspaper clippings, advertisements, programs, newsletters, lists of equipment and names, and city departmental records pertaining to playground activities in Fort William.

The Andrew Dick fonds consists of day books or diaries of daily activities of Mr. Dick, recounting events in his life such as fish catches, plantings, ships passing, temperatures and weather conditions.

The John M. Kelly fonds consists of three volumes containing notes of Mr. Kelly's inspection of various boilers in operation in the cities of Port Arthur and Fort William and on local ships. Provincial government regulations required periodic boiler inspections for all boilers, especially those used in industry.

Collection consists of material compiled by Dr. Mary Isabel Mackey Kelly relating to the Port Arthur school system from 1970 to 1980 with the intention of producing a book on the subject. The book never came about but the collection of notes and manuscripts, almost all of which she transcribed and typed herself from the originals, remains in the form of binders.

The Rosalee Auger fonds consists of correspondence, an arrangement book and schedules for the 1959 royal tour; newspaper clippings regarding Auger's role; and two magazines (The Legionary, Jan., 1960 and Weekend Magazine, Royal Tour Special), all of which are contained in one series.

Fonds consists of the papers of William Wilson, arranged into seven series. The papers are concerned primarily with Wilson's agricultural pursuits and include diaries, ledgers, invoices and receipts along with personal legal papers. His comments published in various newspapers, contained in series 6, form an excellent description of rural Thunder Bay in this period. The diaries are a good source for the study of local climatic change.

The Alfred Coombs fonds consists of miscellaneous materials relating to Alfred Coombs, including three notebooks, a field service pocket book, an RAF Flying Training Manual, a letter sent to Coombs, and other various items (military pass, letter, receipts). These items are all contained within one series.

The Jessie C. Crawford fonds contains notes taken by Miss Baker during her kindergarten assistants' course and during her one year at the Toronto Normal School which were used as the basis for teaching at Port Arthur's first kindergarten at Cornwall School in 1908. The method followed was that of "Montessori", the Italian teacher, and was designed to develop specific skills of hand and mind. Books are hardbound and handwritten.

The Jean Crittall collection consists of material produced and collected by Ms. Crittall. It is composed of four series and relates generally to music and the performing arts at the Lakehead. The records also pertain directly to the career of Gisela Depkat, cellist, and to the Port Arthur Women's Club.

The E.A. Carpenter fonds consists of a diary which he used to keep daily records of his activities during the year 1894. This handwritten account contains mostly business details such as settling of accounts, hiring workers, hauling and cutting wood, rails and ties and a description of his travels to various work sites. Also contains notes of his social and family activities and of local events of importance. Contains references to many of Fort William's notables such as the McKellars, J.T. Horne, Mr. McLaurin, and George A. Graham.

Fonds consists of A.T. Hill's manuscripts, files, published material, miscellaneous textual records and photographs dealing primarily with the union and labor movements in Canada and at the Lakehead, and Communist Party activities, as well as Hill's own interest in the U.S.S.R. and other communist countries. Arranged by record type into six series.

Fonds consists of the papers of Canon C.J. Machin, including sermons given in Port Arthur in the 1880s, correspondence relating to family matters and miscellaneous papers and books concerning his activities as an Anglican minister. There are four series in total.

Fonds consists of Art Widnall's papers relating to his personal affairs as a member of various clubs and organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Emergency Measures Organization and the Thunder Bay District Municipal League; to his family life and to his and others' activities on the Fort William Progressive Conservative Association in the 1970s. Arranged into two series.

The Herman Frederick Eberts fonds consists of reports and agreements relating to mining investments made by H.F. Eberts, primarily in Northern Ontario, including Marks Township, Steep Rock Lake, Black Bay, Rainy River, Loon Lake and Tache, mostly in the 1890s. Consists of letters written to Eberts by various contacts in Canada reporting on the sites and conditions of mines, assayers' reports, and formal agreements and titles to various properties. Also included is a report on pulpwood stands and the prospects for constructing a pulp mill in the Chapleau, Chester and Georgian Bay area, ca. 1900.
