Part of Brooklin Council No. 102 of Royal Templars of Temperance fonds

Records in this series were created to monitor the status of memberships within the organization. Series includes a pledge book (1883-1893), which lists the dates members took pledges and dates of death or suspension, and a roll book (1883-1886). This series also contains petitions and declarations for membership, and branch transfer certificates.

The fonds consists of photographs, correspondence, and records pertaining to and maintained by the Smith, and later Pascoe, families. Photographs depict the Smith family during their construction of and residence at Bayside farm. Later photographs depict the town of Whitby, notable landmarks, and prominent events throughout the life of Mildred Pascoe (1927-1985), a great-granddaughter of the Smith patriarch who maintained and organized the Smith family’s records. Correspondence consists of letters between family members. Records represent the Smith family’s business affairs, religious affiliations, educational achievements, and other personal belongings. Fonds consists of 4 series: Photographs, Correspondence, Receipts, and Miscellaneous records.

Series consists of a variety of documents and records belonging to the Smith and Pascoe families. Records range from the Smith children’s school and church achievement certificates, to the family’s personal collection of books, as well as Mildred Pascoe’s newsletters and records from her time with the Whitby Historical Society. Series also includes information about Sir William Stephenson Public School’s Mildred Pascoe graduation award.

Fonds consists of business records of the Mowat Manufacturing Company, including the letters patent, bylaws, and minutes of the Board of Directors. Most of the records form a single volume, but a few pieces of loose paper are interfiled in the pages of the volume.

Series consists of by-laws established by the Town of Whitby prior to and after amalgamation with the Township of Whitby. By-laws established by the Town cover a range of issues including infrastructure, development, parking, agreements, tenders, land acquisitions, taxation, appointment of city officials, etc.

Part of Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village fonds

The series contains records related to Leonard Cullen's self-memorializing activities, including his writing of memoirs and involvement in two projects of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec (BCOQ): a Baptist Leadership Education Centre (BLEC) and a Christian Heritage Park. In 1981, Leonard Cullen began fundraising for a BLEC in Whitby. Cullen also donated land for the project via Cullen Gardens Inc.; the BLEC was completed in 1984. In the same period, Cullen developed the concept of a Christian Heritage Park, sometimes called an Ontario Heritage Theme Park, which was to be located on Taunton Road West in Whitby. This park was not built.

Records in the series are arranged in subject files. Documentary forms include Cullen's self-published, softcover monographs and his autobiographical essay; BCOQ newsletters, correspondence, event invitations, agendas, pledge forms, and agreements with the Town of Whitby; and BLEC proposals, informative pamphlets, floor plans, technical drawings, project management agreements, and a Canada Works funding application.

Series also contains photographs of distant relatives and notable locations around Whitby, including Heydenshore at Lake Ontario, Whitby High School, and the now-defunct Whitby Jail.

Series consists of a variety of photographs of the Whitby Dunlops, including professional game and team photos. There is a set of 11 images showing the team at the Whitby Arena after winning the Alan Cup in 1957. They were taken by a young fan called Cliff Godridge. There is also a set of photographic postcards from locations in Norway from the European tour in 1958. The series also contains professional photos of Harry Sinden as well as photos from the estate of Bus Gagnon.

The series contains records related to Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village's radio, television, and print advertising campaigns, particularly throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Records were also generated as a result of specific promotional activities for the opening of various site features or special events. Finally, some records were not primarily promotional in intent but were intended to communicate information to employees of Cullen companies and the general public regarding site alterations or corporate changes.

Documentary forms include the following: Event invitations and agendas; press releases; restaurant menus; Cullen Gardens newspapers for visitors; Cullen Gardens support manuals for educators; souvenir booklets and calendars; brochures; tour mailings and rate cards; magazine articles; posters; employee newsletters; television advertisements recorded on videocassette; raw footage of the gardens for eventual use in television advertisements, also on videocassette; special promotional features for television on videocassette; and radio advertisements and specials on audiocassette.
