Series consists of materials pertaining to the Hydrofoil project and sonar development in the Royal Canadian Navy. It includes reports, minutes of meetings, memoranda and other papers from the Defence Research Board, the Naval Staff, the Naval Board, the Hydrofoil Project Manager, the Naval Research Establishment, DeHavilland Aircraft of Canada, and the Canadian Naval Technical History Association.

Series mostly consists of the “Technological Decision-Making in the Canadian Navy: 1953-1965” by Sturton Mathwin. Davis, which is a document consisting of seven sections, and various drafts of it. The different sections of the manuscript include: biographical notes; the nuclear-submarine progression: from nuclear repulsion to nuclear submarines to conventional submarines; Royal Canadian Navy technical service on the eve of unification: reorganization and restriction; the general purpose frigate: new approaches to design and development; the DDH 280: inception and approval of a new concept; naval overseeing, trials, acceptance and commissioning; and concluding reflections: thoughts of achievement and failure. The series also consists of manuscripts on defence colleges, some biographical and autobiographical information about Sturton Mathwin Davis and his correspondence with others.

Series consists of NATO Naval Advisory Group Meetings (1963-1966) and NATO Naval Steering Group Meetings (1959-1963) from the office of the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air & Warfare).

Series consists of several Canada-United States Agreed Intelligence Estimates (CANUS) entitled “The Military Threat to North America” (1966 to 1973). Also includes a Joint Intelligence Committee document on the military threat to NATO Europe (1967-1968) and a Canadian-United States Intelligence Conference document on Soviet capabilities (1958).

Series consists of documents relating to existing Canadian Forces doctrine and policy, and regarding the employment of non-lethal weapons, combat development issues, operations other than war, a model for the spectrum of conflict, and the application of operational level doctrine. Series consists of information cards concerning Royal Canadian Air Force airmen who were evaders during the Second World War. Cards contain name, service number, rank, squadron number, and dates.

Series consists of material written by Alan James between 1957 and 1998. Includes articles, book reviews, lecture texts and book chapters, which were published in a variety of peacekeeping journals, magazines, newspapers and books. Subjects covered include the United Nations generally, and specifically in relation to international relations, the Cold War and disarmament, and UN peacekeeping in general as well as specific peacekeeping operations. The series also contains two books by Alan James. Sovereign Statehood: The Basis of International Society, was published in 1986 as part of the Key Concepts in International Relations Series, and Britain and the Congo Crisis: 1960-1963 was published in 1996.

Series consists of several files containing forms, messages and correspondence between chart depots at various locations in the world and the Hydrographic Services Office in Halifax, N.S. during the Second World War to 1947. Includes files of the Hydrographic and Map Services Branch of the Canadian government and the Hydrographer, Naval Service Headquarters (NSHQ), Ottawa (formerly the Staff Officer, Navigator), as well as the British Admiralty’s the Hydrographer and Chief Superintendent. There are also files of: the Naval Secretary, Ottawa; the Commanding Officer Atlantic Coast; the Commodore Halifax and Commander of Dockyard (formerly the Naval Officer in Charge Halifax); and the Naval Officer in Charge and Naval Control Service Officer for Montreal, Saint John and Sydney, NS. Includes numerous requests for charts and other hydrographic publications, as well as various documents describing the shipping, receiving and issuing of charts to various ships and other hydrographic offices. There is also personal correspondence of the Commander of the Halifax Chart and Chronometer Depot, which describe personal inquiries and requests to the office. Standards on magnetic compasses, buoys and other nautical equipment are also included as well as numerous memoranda describing all administrative functions of the depot. The files are arranged in alpha-numerical order by reference number. Files with no reference number are filed in alphabetical order by title at the end of the series.

Series I consists of documentation produced by and submitted to the Special Commission on Reserve Restructure (SCRR), including some personal papers produced and received by Charles H. Belzile. Types of documentation include memoranda, correspondence, agendas, calendar schedules, internal issues such as the commission budget, submissions and presentations via hearings or writing, reports, briefs, and slides. The content of the documentation varies from personal correspondence, discussion of the submissions and presentations, opinions from various sources (historical, unit level, on the overall restructuring or particular aspects, from the general public, specialists, cadets, and regular versus reserves), funding issues, and many statistics on almost all aspects. Each document that was collected as a part of the commission’s work for consideration should have a correspondence document summary sheet.

Series consists of the Secretariat file lists for the Joint Staff and Chiefs of Staff Committee. Includes the following files: Part I and II of the Joint Staff and CSC Secretariat Files (2 copies); list of Old Chairman, Chiefs of Staff folders; JS/DSS file index; and file index JTC Organization and Establishment.

Series consists of four staff notes written for the Directorate of Social and Economic Analysis (DSEA) of the Operational Research and Analysis Establishment (ORAE). These notes are part of a larger report on the Canadian army regimental system written by Anthony Kellett. Series also includes one discussion paper from the Director General Policy Planning (DG Pol) concerning the Canadian regimental system.

Series consists of LFC HQ (Land Forces Command Headquarters) records pertaining to the military intelligence activities of the Canadian Armed Forces in various operational theatres throughout the 1990s. Among others, this includes summaries, information sheets, reports, memoranda, briefing notes, directives and various other documents. Series consists of files addressed to the Chief of the General Staff and dealing directly with Army issues during the Cold War. Some of the main North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) bodies dealt with include: the North Atlantic Council; the Military Committee; the Infrastructure Committee; and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). Subjects covered include NATO’s: nuclear equipment and supplies; appropriations and expenditures; infrastructure; and military policy. Other subjects covered include nuclear warfare and SHAPE's operational readiness and manpower planning.

Series consists of materials pertaining to Exercise Resolute Warrior. Includes Land Force Central Area (LFCA) general instructions with annexes, and a copy of Redeployment Order o1. Also includes three general files consisting of presentation outlines, deployment summaries and various other documents.

Series consists of 200 files pertaining to Canadians who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in Burma during the Second World War. Includes newspaper clippings, biographical sketches, letters and other key information that illustrates the accomplishments of these combatants. The contents of the fonds contributed to writing a book on the subject of Canadian military involvement in Burma. Arranged in alphabetical order by surname.

Subseries consists of material documenting Robert’s Caldwell’s deployment to Afghanistan. Includes memoranda, email, itinerary, notes, email security clearance form, deployment checklist for DND Civilians and other documents. There are also a final and other versions of an after action report by Caldwell, documents regarding extra pay duty and email regarding his visit to The Netherlands in the summer of 2008. The subseries is arranged in alphabetical order by file title.

Series consists of photocopies of the Dept. of National Defence RG 24 records at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) ordered by Isabel Campbell and pertaining to activities of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) after the Second World War to the early 1960s. The majority of the files are arranged according to a subject classification filing system used by the RCN after the Second World War to the mid-1960s. They cover a wide variety of subjects, including anti-submarine warfare, military planning, coast defences, Canadian defences, North American defences, emergency management planning, military cooperation and various other subjects. The principal military bodies involved include: the Dept. of National Defence’s Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Joint Planning Committee; the RCN’s Flag Officer Atlantic Coast; NATO; and the Canada-United States Permanent Joint board on Defence. There are non RG24 records and a file from the Harry S. Truman Library, as well as articles, papers and unpublished drafts.The series is composed of the following groups:
