Baby Point Plaque

Item is one temporary plaque made of corrugated plastic. The design of the plaque replicates other heritage plaques around the city of Toronto that detail local history. Titled “Baby Point Crescent, Baby Point Road, Baby Point Terrace”, the contents of the sign explains the history of Jacques “James” Baby, who the area is named after. It highlights the Baby family’s ties to slavery, citing they were responsible for enslaving at least 17 Black and Indigneous people. The creator of the sign is unknown, it is one of several signs placed around Toronto to draw attention to the involvment of prominent historical figures in slavery.

Pass Collection

Collection consists of passes, tickets and stickers for the Canadian National Exhibition and other events at Exhibition Place.
The Pass Collection is divided into two Series: CNE Passes and Event and Miscellaneous Passes. Series 1, the CNE Passes Series, is organized chronologically at the File level. Series 2, the Event and Miscellaneous Passes Series, is organized by subject at the File level.

Fonds consists of a scrapbook started by the Class President of the 1946 September Class, Margaret Smith, as well as a letter to the UHN Archives from class member Joyce Kinslow, outlining the origins of the scrapbook. The scrapbook was originally kept in a binder. Ms. Smith kept the scrapbook up to date for a span of 60 years by having a page or pages dedicated to each graduate. Graduates would send pictures and notes to Margaret throughout the years for inclusion on their page in the scrapbook. The scrapbook would be shared and updated at class reunions and subsequently came to be held by Joyce Kinslow. Affixed to the pages of the scrapbook are photographs, letters, typed and handwritten entries, business cards, announcements, newspaper clippings, obituaries, menus for official gatherings, and a commemorative booklet, <i>The Nurses’ Alumnae Association of the Toronto Western Hospital’s Diamond Jubilee 1898-1958</i>.

Collection consists of a photocopy of the Act to amalgamate TGH with TWH, and various hospital newsletters, guidelines, formularies and reports.

Fonds illustrates Ella N. Martin’s work as a senior lecturer at the Royal Ontario Museum and her interest in improving museum education. The fonds is arranged into twelve series, which span her entire career from the late 1930s to the mid 1970s. The fonds includes correspondence, publications, photographs, personal papers and journals, lecture notes, drafts of a book, student reports, course instructions, teacher evaluation forms, interpretative text, film and radio scripts, worksheets for children and other materials. Fonds consists of drawings, watercolours and designs of A. H. Howard produced in Toronto between 1880 and 1914, especially in the sketchbooks in which Howard drew Ontario landscapes and towns, flowers, trees, human figures, factory interiors and other subjects. Similar drawings and watercolours are contained in two albums and a portfolio. Also included are examples of his decorative and calligraphic work from illuminated presentation addresses, certificates, bookplates and other materials.
