File consists largely of photocopies of newspaper clippings, most of which relate to issues facing the legal profession and the courts during the tenure of William G.C. Howland as Chief Justice of Ontario. The clippings range in date from 1961 to 1990. Topics include: television cameras in court, the Ontario Judicial Council, court backlogs, and court security. Also included are a Federation of Law Societies of Canada programme for a refresher course in criminal law and procedure (1974), a report (or speech) prepared by Howland for the Federation of Law Societies of Canada annual meeting (1974), a list outlining developments with regards to the televising of court proceedings (1982), handwritten notes, a list of Law Society committees on which Howland served as a member, a photocopy of a letter to Howland from the Hon. John D. Arnup, a list of case citations in which Howland acted as counsel, a letter to Howland from Christine Kates (Oral History Programme Co-ordinator), a biographical sketch on Howland, and excerpts from "Who's Who in Canada".
