Richard John Cartwright fonds

Fonds consists of business papers from the stewardship of W.H. Wilkison 1865-1868, and from the stewardship of Alfred Knight 1893-1901. The papers from the intervening years are missing. The correspondence relates to the management of Cartwright property in the county, as well as a few other business ventures. Series consists of photograhs depicting the people and places of early Vaughan as well as the post offices throughout Vaughan Township (Norberta wrote a book Chatting About the Post Offices of Vaughan Township, Ontario, published 1983), Norberta was also a long-time journalist with the Woodbridge and Vaughan News and thus some of the photos she used in her articles can also be found in this series.

Pitman family fonds

The fonds consists of two books plus banking records and statements, invoices, a postcard, phone bills and two flyers. Book 1 is an account ledger with name index spanning from 1932-1940. Book 2 is a notebook from 19 March 1940- 18 Sept. 1944. Other records include a statement from Sept. 21, 1936 plus 10 pages from an accounts ledger, no date, possibly recording household goods sold from the Pitman's store; two Canadian Bank of Commerce vinyl folders; seven “Long Distance Service” phone bill statements; two receipts; four loose pages from a petty accounts book; two envelopes; card from “Tuck” to Mrs. J. Churchill, no date; two flyers, one from “Charlinore Kennels” and one from “Director of Annuities”.

Item is a handwritten invoice for Mr. Albt. Ball, dated June 9th 1873 for services from Dr. J. S. Ceaser, V.S. Invoice shows services and costs. The invoice includes services from 1872. Albert Ball lived in Hope Township.

Item is a printer's proof of an invoice and price list created for James Taylor, manufacturer of Stone Enamelled Earthenware, Flower Pots, Vases, Chimney Tops, etc., Port Hope Pottery.

Port Hope Business Receipts and Invoices

File consists of seventeen (17) invoices addressed to Mrs. Schwartz/Swartz of Hillcrest (175 Dorset Street West), dating from 1901 to 1907. Businesses include, John Curtis, A. Nicholson, J. P. McKenny, H. W. Mitchell, R. A. Mulholland, M. Millford, R. Deyell, Fanny Dundas, F. W. Galbraith, The Great North Western Telegraph Company of Canada, Chas. Hutchings. The invoices and receipts show items and the purchase prices. Includes an invoice from the drugstore, telegraph company and seamstress.

Series consists of newspaper clippings (both copies and originals) related to various Port Hope hotels, c1854-1989. It includes: The Albion, Bletcher's Inn, Blackham's, The British, Canada House, Durham House, The Ganaraska Hotel, Hetherington's Hotel, Lake View House, Lees Hotel (Mill Street North), Martin Griffen's Hotel, Midland House, The North American, Queen's Arms Inn, The Plains, The Royal, Stenson's, St. Lawrence Hotel, Strong's Hotel, Turner House, The Walton (Queen's Hotel), and other miscellaneous inns, taverns and saloons. The series also contains two (2) paper napkins from the Queen's Hotel on Walton Street.

Mitchell and Black's Gardens Greenhouses Newspaper Clippings

Series consists of advertisements and newspaper clippings related to Mitchell and Black's Gardens Greenhouses on Molson Street, c1980s. The business was located in the "Mitchell House" at 82 Molson Street, and also went by the name of "Ontario Gardens." The articles were copied and clipped by N. Tom Long from the Port Hope Evening Guide.
