This file consists of photocopies purchased from the National Archives of Canada of a single volume described as Waterloo County real estate transactions 1897-1910. The transactions consist of deeds and mortgages dated 1901-1910, with an index, relating primarily to parcels of land in Berlin [i.e. Kitchener], Ontario.

Contents: autobiography of Irene Brown. The first fifteen pages are computer output typescript, the remaining 459 pages are ms.

Deed of bargain and sale on vellum, dated December 12, 1834, details a transaction between Vincent Dewell, and his wife Harriet, with Henry Smith regarding a plot of land in exchange for 50 pounds. The plot of land is identified as the west part of lot 29 on the 8th concession of Hope Township in Durham County, Upper Canada. Two red wax seals appear on the bottom right corner of the deed.

Two items of correspondence from Emily Bax to a Mrs. Milner Wood of Woodman's Point on the St. John's River, dated June 3, 1938 and May 16, 1939. Topics discussed include Emily Bax's book, the World's Fair, the King's speech, and her daily life and plans.

One scrapbook assembled by Ethel and Anne Longfellow during their attendance at Smith College, Massachusetts between 1902-1906. The scrapbook contains correspondence, photographs, programmes, clippings, notes and ephemera detailing the academic and social life of the sisters.

One letter dated January 21, 1963 and addressed to "My Dear Jean" from Dion Calthrop Clayton regarding his book. Underneath the body of the letter is a drawing in black ink of a person blowing on a trumpet. There is also a separate, folded leaflet included with the letter titled, "In Memoriam 1881-1937". Inside the leaflet is a black and white profile shot of Calthrop.

Typescript play written by Royde-Smith titled "Mafro: A Comedy in Three Acts." The play is dated March 1929 and was apparently unpublished. An inscription on the cover page reads "To W. Graham Robertson from Naomi Royde-Smith."

One holograph letter from John Galt addressed to "Croker." The letter requests that Croker publish the enclosed items in his magazine if they are not too late reaching him.

One 141 page carbon typescript of "Among the beavers: Canadians and others" by Gladys Lillian King. The work is a personal narrative of the work done by the Military Women Police in and around the Beaver Hut in the Strand, London, England. Also includes two photographs of King with others.

Register book kept by the Ontario Association of Architects for the years 1890-1899. The book lists dues paid by each member of the association as well as money received for exam fees, filing articles, student fees and more. Also includes one item of correspondence from Mills & Hutton, architects asking the secretary for information on rates for architectural work. The register was kept by William R. Gregg.

Manuscript poem that was found in Hartley Coleridge's "Poems: Songs and Sonnets." The poem is written in an unknown hand and the title reads "Lines (unpublished) written to a friend after a discussion on [points] of faith - by Hartley Coleridge."

Manuscript poem entitled, "On Parting from My Sister and Her Children." Also included are two pencil drawings, one of which depicts a church and graveyard scene in a village located three miles from Dublin. The poem and drawings have been bound into a book. In the front cover of the book is a newspaper clipping of an obituary for Isabella Jane and Caroline Olivia Clare.

One volume of household accounts, 1911-1919, kept by an unidentified female, probably from the Port Elgin, Ont. area.

Contents: one 53 p. vellum bound ms. cookbook of unknown origin. Cookbook features approxamitely 50 recipes in at least fifteen different hands. Most recipes are for desserts, although a few are for savoury dishes and household products. Some recipes are signed and signatures include M. Moore, Mary Dawson, and S. Lowels. Also included in the file is an index of recipes and the original seller's note.

Fonds consist of a silver Littleside prize goblet, a cd with pictures, and a large Trinity College School banner.

Item is the Affidavit of James Martyn regarding the boundary between Lot 13 and Lot 14 of the 5th Concession.

Item is a single reel-to-reel audio recording of an interview with Howard Vernon Hearst, conducted by his great-nephew Doug Davey around 1975.

Subjects covered in the interview include the Hearst family early history in Ontario. Also recorded are remarks on the life of William H. Hearst: his family activities; his law training and his early law practice; his entry into political life including his years as Minister of Lands, Forests and Mines, and his time as Prime Minister (Premier) of Ontario; and his life after his political career ended.

A majority of the interview focuses on the life and experiences of Howard Vernon Hearst including his early family life, education and school social life at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall, employment, service in the First World War and as a member of Canada's Siberian Expedition, and meeting and marrying his first wife.

Item consists of a pencil drawing entitled Old Firehall and Ryerson Press by Ontario artist James Blomfield.

The drawing depicts a 1930s streetscape of Queen Street West near Peter Street in Toronto. There are people walking on the sidewalks, cars on the street, and a number of storefronts depicted including an old firehall with clock tower and 299 Queen Street West in the background. This building is perhaps best known as the former CHUM-City building located at Queen Street West and John Street but was originally constructed as the headquarters of the Methodist Church of Canada in 1913 by Burke, Horwood and White. By 1959, Ryerson Press, originally the publishing arm of the Methodist Church, had grown to occupy the entire building.

The drawing has been signed and dated by the artist at the lower right in orange coloured pencil. A circle divided into three sections has been drawn above the artist's inscription.

Item is a group portrait photograph of 16 dignitaries standing and sitting on the front veranda and steps of Government House (the residence of the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario) on Simcoe Street in Toronto. The photograph was taken by Toronto photographer, J. Fraser Bryce on October 11, 1901 during the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York to Canada.

Each person is numbered in the photograph and a corresponding key on the border identies each person by title and/or name.

Dignitaries of note include: the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, The Earl of Minto (Governor General of Canada 1898-1904), the Countess of Minto, Sir Oliver Mowat, Mrs. Thomas Langton, Professor Ramsay Wright, and Hon. Andrew Blair, Minister of Railways (1896-1903).
