Fonds consists of a variety of records that document both the life and work of The Rev. Dr. E.H. Johnson. A majority of the records document his service with the General Board of Missions of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, and especially his involvement in relief efforts during the Nigeria/Biafra conflict of the late 1960s. Other records reflect some of his work on various committees and church councils including the Canadian Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches, as well as aspects of his work as a lecturer at Knox College, Toronto, and the New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Jersey. The fonds also consists of some of his writings, including sermons, addresses, articles and also draft copies of a book on China.
