The collection consists mainly of correspondence between John Elmsley and John Simcoe Macaulay, dealing with official, military and political affairs, as well as personal financial matters. Most of John Simcoe Macaulay's correspondence deals with property and financial interests in Canada before and after his departure for England in 1843. Other subjects in the correspondence include the clergy reserves and the Clergy Reserves Bill, and the building of a church on Trinity Square. Records are arranged in chronological order.
