1948 photos with explanations

File consists of four photographs taken at a December 1948 Christmas party at the offices of Fasken Robertson Aitchison Pickup & Calvin. These photographs depict some of the firm lawyers and secretarial staff, including David Menzel, James Aitchison, J.D. Pickup, J.W. Pickup, B.R. MacKenzie, W.B. Williston, J.F. Robertson. Photographs are accompanied by typewritten expanatory notes detailing the nature of the firm Christmas parties and identifying the subjects in each photograph.

Accounting records

Sub-series consists of trust journals, cash books, ledgers, financial statements, memoranda, notes, reports, receipts, warranties, and transfer sheets pertaining to firm clients and firm finances. Many of these records, particularly ledgers, transfer sheets and trust journals, have been transferred to microfilm.

Administration Committee files

Sub-series consists of memoranda and minutes pertaining to meetings of the firm's Administration Committee in the early and mid-1980s. These records document the role of the Administration Committee to manage a variety of issues for the firm, including cash and credit card statements, student recruitment, computer systems, office space, holiday hours, office security, health plans, and other miscellaneous administrative issues.

These records document changes in partnership, firm mergers, firm policies, the administration of the law firm, and human resources issues. Records in the sub-series include memoranda, correspondence, lease agreements, manuals, reports, newspaper clippings, financial statements, brochures, day planners, deeds, letterhead, notes, floor plans, telephone books, partnership agreements, and office directories.

Series consists of records created and accumulated by a variety of people associated with the firm, pertaining to its history and firm partners, as well as genealogical material about the Fasken family in particular. The series has been divided into two sub-series: biographical subject files and Fasken family histories.

Biographical subject files

Sub-series consists of records pertaining primarily to firm partners, including Alexander Fasken, J.W. Pickup, Bryce MacKenzie, Fraser Fell, J.B. Robinson and C.C. Calvin. The material, in the form of personal reminiscences, newspaper clippings, obituaries and other biographical material, documents the firm's interest in its own history but also the activities and accomplishments of its partners.

Case material

Series consists of records pertaining to some of the legal work of firm partners and lawyers. These records are predominantly correspondence and reports, as well as legal and court documents, invoices, cheques, and share documents. Preparatory materials are also in this file, including resources such as notebooks, case and precedents books. Records pertaining to J.W. Swackhamer's work for the Commission of Inquiry into Certain Disturbances at Kingston Penitentiary are also included.
