Predominantly, the records in this sous-fonds relate to the ownership, purchase and transfer of land and property in the province, particularly in the City of Toronto, the Township of York, the Township of Muskoka (Lightwood Island), the Township of Normanby, and the City of London (Ont.). Many documents in this sous-fonds pertain to the same plots of land and/or property as they changed ownership over time. Sandford Fleming, in his capacity as Provincial Land Surveyor, made the survey and plan referred to in this document, of the west part of Park Lot Four in the first concession, at the request of Thomas Gibbs Ridout. This land is possibly part of or adjacent to the site of Turner's home, Allandale, built in 1856. The first document, dated 12 July 1838, is an agreement conveying this property from Christopher Alexander Hagerman, a Toronto lawyer, to Josiah Humphrey, carpenter, also of Toronto. The second document, dated 22 April 1862, is an agreement conveying the same property from John Beverley Robinson Jr., a Toronto lawyer, and his wife, Mary Jane Robinson, to Josiah Humphrey. Both documents detail the parameters of the property and the rights and obligations of each party.
