Claude Garton was a teacher and botanist. He amassed a collection of over 10,000 plant specimens, which were donated to form the Herbarium at Lakehead University. These records relate largely to his plant observations and collections.

Herbarium Papers

Records related to the Herbarium collection and the preparation of the Index of Specimens. Includes three volumes of collection records, a working copy of the Index, and final version of the Index.

Lake Nipigon Specimen Cards

Cards from an observation project at Lake Nipigon. Arranged by species name, each card contains a list of locations where that species was observed.

The notebooks contain Garton's plant observations, each observation on one page. Some of the notebooks created carbon copies of each observation record.

Personal Papers

Includes some of Garton's correspondence and writings, some correspondence copied or forwarded from other naturalists, one personal diary from 1987, and a set of hand-drawn diagrams of plant biology.
