Series I and Series II are comprised of official subject files from the Office of the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff and, after 1964, from the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff. General Charles Foulkes was Chairman from 1951 to 1960 and Air Chief Marshal Frank Miller was Chairman from 1960 to 1964. Miller continued as Chief of Defence Staff from 1964 to 1966, General J.V. Allard was Chief from 1966 to 1969 and General F.R. Sharp was Chief from 1969 to 1972. Series I (files 1-771, 3399-3400) dates from 1944 to 1970 with the bulk of the material dating from 1951 to 1964. Series II (files 801-1123, 3398) dates from 1950 to 1974 with the bulk of material dating from 1962 to 1972.

Series consists of documents regarding military recruitment trips in Alberta in 1941, as well as collection of pictures taken at the Military Attachés Conference. There are also large photographs of General Charles Foulkes, Air Chief Marshal Frank Robert Miller, Lt-Gen Jean V. Allard, and General Frederick R. Sharp. As well, there is a large scrap book containing pictures of the Currie Barracks at Canadian Force Base Calgary, the parades and presentations made by the “A” Company Edmonton Regiment, pictures of “D” Day, the Mullberry Harbour, and the enemy’s defences in northern France as well as various military documents received by Robert Lewis Raymont.

Series consists of papers pertaining to Defence Policy in Canada during the 1960s and early 1970s. Includes defence planning guidances and policy reviews, Hansard clippings (House of Commons Debates), articles by Richard S. Malone, and various other documents. Also includes speeches by the Prime Minister (1970-1972), the Minister of National Defence (1952-1972), the Chief of the Defence Staff (1969-1972) and the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (1966-1972). There is also papers collected by General Frederick Ralph Sharp on the reorganization and the unification of the Canadian Forces. There are also 3 reports on the Canadian Defence Policy prepared by Raymont.

Series consists of papers pertaining to military intelligence and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) during 1944 to 1979. Includes development reports and reappraisals of the CF-105 Aircraft (Arrow Jetfighter plane), a history of the CF-5 Aircraft, discussions regarding the purchase of the Avenger Aircraft from the United States Navy (USN), development reports of the Bomarc missile, the development of nuclear weapons for the Canadian Armed Forces, and the organization of National Defence Headquarters. Also includes documents on the management of the Canadian Armed Forces, joint Canada-United States defence policies, Canada-Europe military relations, presentations to the National Defence College, NORAD/NATO relations, NATO capabilities and strategic guidance, United Kingdom defence organization, United States defence reorganization, and military intelligence liaison with the United States and the United Kingdom.

Series consists of papers alphabetically arranged by subject. Some of the subjects include: anti-submarine warfare, Canada-United States military relations, NATO, nuclear weapons, peacekeeping, and Canada’s military policy. Also includes documents regarding the activities of Canadian regiments and the 1st Canadian Corps during the Second World War in Northwest Europe. There are also speeches (1948-1969) by Foulkes and a scrapbook.

Series consists of papers relating to Second World War Post Hostilities Programmes. It consists of minutes and related papers of the Cabinet War Committee, the Advisory Committee on Post Hostilities Problems and the Working Committee on Post Hostilities Problems. The files were gathered and arranged according to Colonel Robert Lewis Raymont's original order.

Fonds consists of material gathered, organized and broken down by series by Colonel Robert Lewis Raymont, and documenting the activities of the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff and, after 1964, the Office of Chief of Defence Staff from 1944 to 1972. The documents are concerned with policy making in the Department of National Defence in connection with NATO, the war in Korea, integration and unification of the forces, bilingualism, Continental Defence, and other important subjects. Series consists of papers relating to the Canadian Joint Staff Mission (CJSM) London during the 1940s. Includes messages between General Charles Foulkes and Raymont, as well as correspondence between the Secretary, Canadian Chiefs of Staff Committee and Raymont when he was Secretary, Canadian Joint Liaison Officers. Also includes administrative papers for CJSM during 1945-1946, including messages, minutes to meetings, correspondence and various other documents. There are also papers regarding policy and the history on the Canadian Joint Liaison Officers (London).

Series consists of miscellaneous documents regarding unification of the Canadian Armed Forces, Canada’s defence policy, organization of the Canadian Forces and the Dept. of National Defence, and the Royal Commission of Government Organization (the Glassco Commission). Also includes indexes to Robert Lewis Raymont’s speech research material and his research papers on speeches, correspondence between Raymont and Dr. W.A.B. Douglas, Senior Historian and Director-General at the Directorate of History. There are also speeches and addresses by General Frederick Ralph Sharp, General Charles Foulkes, Air Chief Marshal Frank Robert Miller and Paul Hellyer (Minister of National Defence), as well as Lieutenant-General J.V.
