Fonds consists of administrative files produced by Army Headquarters (AHQ) that pertain to Exercise Phoenix. These files contain various notional exercise documents, such as message forms, correspondence, memoranda, minutes of meetings, requisitions, organizational charts, situation reports and command instructions. Also includes two 1964 reports, titled “Organizational Review of Army Headquarters (Project ORA)” and “Organizational Review of Army Headquarters (Project ORA) Supplementary Report on Committee Activity”. Chaplains' Services (1958)

Series consists of documents pertaining to Exercise Phoenix (such as message forms, memoranda and correspondence) that contain general information about Chaplain Services. Specifically, the documents relate to Protestant and Roman Catholic Chaplain Services.

Committees (1958)

Series consists of documents pertaining to Exercise Phoenix (such as message forms, memoranda and correspondence) that contain general information about committees in the Canadian Army and the Department of National Defence. Specifically, the documents relate to conferences and meetings of the Army Council, the Geneva Convention, the Chiefs of Staff, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations.

Intelligence (1958)

Series consists of documents pertaining to Exercise Phoenix (such as message forms, memoranda and correspondence) that contain general information about military intelligence. Specifically, documents relate to the administration of the Canadian Attache to Japan; alert briefings; co-operation and liaison with USA Attaches; and security in general.

Organization and Administration (1957-1958)

Series consists of documents pertaining to Exercise Phoenix (such as message forms, memoranda and correspondence) that contain general information about organization and administration. Specifically, the documents relate to the organization and administration of the Canadian Army; 1 Canadian Infantry Division; the United Nations (UN) Forces; 2 Canadian Infantry Brigade; 3 Canadian Infantry Brigade; 4 Canadian Infantry Brigade; the Mobile Striking Force; Movement Control Groups; Canadian Army Regular; Canadian Army Militia; the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO); attaches; United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF); Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE); and Emergency Army Headquarters.

Specifically, the documents relate to personnel in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (RCASC); service personnel in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps (RCAMC); call out of troops; personnel discipline (including court martials); documentation and records; enrolment and recruiting (including exemptions); employment of reserves; estates; identification; leave and furlough; manpower; pensions; reinforcements; service personnel releases; personnel welfare (including the Salvation Army); strength returns (Canadian Army Active Service Force); and civilian personnel.

Reports (1964)

Series consists of two reports, entitled “Organizational Review of Army Headquarters (Project ORA)” and “Organizational Review of Army Headquarters (Project ORA) Supplementary Report on Committee Activity”. Carried out by a specially directed Organizational Study Team, the general purpose of the first report was to determine whether the organization of Army Headquarters was adequate to meet its commitments. The aim of the supplementary report was to review the committee activity at Army Headquarters. Both reports include several appendices.

Supplies and Services (1958)

Series consists of documents pertaining to Exercise Phoenix (such as message forms, memoranda and correspondence) that contain general information about supplies and services. Specifically, the documents relate to food, rations and Petrol, Oil and Lubricants (POL). Files in this series also include folders entitled “Buildings and Grounds: Construction and Maintenance” and” Transportation - Personnel: Policy.”

Specifically, the documents relate to transportation personnel for air, ocean and rail; general information on transportation and evacuation of dependents (including evacuation from Europe); Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) flights; freight and express for air, ocean, rail, road and in general. Series also contains files entitled “Supplies and Services: POL [Petrol, Oil and Lubricants],” “Sports Collection: Generally,” “Equipment and Stores: Anti-tank” and “Equipment and Stores: Prefabricated Huts – General.”
