Series consists of papers relating to army renewal, restructuring and the future of the army in the Canadian Forces. Other subjects covered includes mobilization planning in the Canadian Forces and security challenges for the Canadian Forces in the 21st century. There is also a workshop package on Canadian defence beyond 2000.

Series consists of documents detailing the development of the Canadian Army’s keystone doctrine manual “CFP 300 – Canada’s Army.” Includes a series of drafts of the publication with reviews, comments and feedback. Also includes reports, preliminary drafts, correspondence, and critiques. There are also approximately 230 colour and black and white photographs that were used in the publication and covering a wide variety of subjects. Some of the subjects include: the Canadian Rangers; leadership; NATO; the United Nations operations; Army equipment and the two World Wars.

Series consists of documents covering a wide variety of military topics, including the Land Force Command’s strategic operations and resource plan for 1997-2002, policy regarding military interviews, the state of the army, military humour, the Royal Canadian Regiment, etc. There are also Army Council briefs and minutes for 1995-1997, and Major Near’s paper on the army’s self image for “The Army and the Nation Seminar” in 1998. Also includes documents concerning future Force planning, army equipment, Canada-US military relations and army manpower.

Series consists of documents concerning General Romeo Dallaire. Includes transcripts and drafts of speeches by Dallaire, as well as articles regarding Dallaire and his experiences in Rwanda. There is also conference material regarding the Rwanda Retrospective in 1997 and the Army General Officers’ seminar in 2000.

Fonds consists of material documenting the state of Canada's Army in the 1990s and issues facing the Army in the 21st century, and relating to Canadian Forces policies and doctrines, specifically, plans for special operations, the development of a new CF Spectrum of Conflict, the development of an operational level doctrine as well as policies on non-lethal weapons. There are also records on NATO/Canada activities concerning the Alliance defence planning, as well as CF training and training exercises, primarily Combat Readiness Evaluation (CRE), Land Force Development, and other Human Resources issues. Also includes first person accounts, scripts and reports of United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Balkans as well as papers prepared by General Romeo Dallaire, as well as information regarding "leadership failure" within the Canadian Forces. Finally, there are documents detailing the development of the Canadian Army’s keystone doctrine manual “CFP 300 – Canada’s Army.”

Series consists of documents relating to leadership in the Canadian Forces, and regarding the Board of Inquiry into command control and leadership of CANBAT 2 in Bosnia, the Haiti Board of Inquiry into leadership relationships with the Military Police and events surrounding the mistreatment of Haitian detainees, and the circumstances surrounding the death of Corporal Daniel Gunther in 1993. There are also newspaper clippings regarding the state of the Canadian Forces and leadership during the 1990s, views of senior army leadership, and the Canadian Forces Leadership Institute.

Series consists of documents dealing with NATO and NATO-Canada activities as they pertain to Alliance defence planning. A lot of the material related to NATO’s new Strategic Concept which was declared at the 1999 Washington Summit and was a fall out of the Alliance’s unhappy experience with the war in Kosovo. There is also material on the Defence Capabilities Initiative (DCI) and new force structures emphasizing High Readiness Forces. Also includes documentation describing Canadian policy/thinking about what Canada’s military contribution to NATO should be, and Canada’s response to NATO Defence Planning Questionnaire and follow-up corrigendums for 2004.

Series consists of documents relating to various Human Resources issues, particularly in regards to morale in the army, change initiatives, quality of life, senior officer professional development, operational level deficiencies in the Canadian Forces and women in combat. There is also a survey of soldiers at Camp Meaford, Ontario and a business plan for the Dept. of National Defence Human Resources group. Includes reports, papers, executive summary, briefing notes, correspondence and other documents.

Series consists of documents relating to training in the Canadian Forces, and regarding combat readiness, army operational effectiveness and army structuring. Includes operational plans, evaluation programmes and guides, instructions, computer disks, reports and various other documents.

Series consists of documents relating to United Nations peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, and regarding the Canadian Forces, particularly the Royal Canadian Regiment, and the United Nations Protection Force. There are transcripts of speeches by Robert Near on United Nations peacekeeping, as well as documents regarding peacekeeping doctrine and rules of engagement.
