Fonds consists of documents mainly pertaining to Canadian dealings with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) during the Cold War period. Some of the main NATO committees and bodies dealt with include the the Military Committee, the Infrastructure Committee, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), and Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT). Important subjects covered include nuclear warfare, NATO’s nuclear equipment and stores, its defence measures and plans, its international affairs, its infrastructure and its annual reviews (1952-1963), as well as the United Nations Emergency Force. There are also minutes to meetings for: Vice Chiefs to Staff Committee; the Joint Services Committees for the Pacific Coast, Atlantic Coast, East Coast and Newfoundland; and the Canada-United States Military Cooperation Committee. Also includes daily correspondence for the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee, minutes to meetings and papers for the Chiefs of Staff Committee, as well as minutes to meetings and papers for the Joint Planning Committee. Series consists of minutes to the meetings of the Vice Chiefs of Staff Committee during 1950-1964. Also includes minutes to special meetings in 1959 and 1961 and supporting documents to the meetings.

Some of the main North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) bodies dealt with include: Military Committee; Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic; Supreme Allied Commander Europe; North Atlantic Ocean Regional Planning Group; and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. There are includes NATO's annual reviews (1952-1963) and files regarding the United Nations Emergency Force. Some of the subjects covered include: military intelligence, air defences, military communications and nuclear warfare. Also includes NATO's: defence planning, personnel management, the Berlin situation, history, military policy and infrastructure.

Series consists of files for the Chief of the Air Staff and dealing closely to Air Force topics. Includes NATO annual reviews (1956-1961 and 1964) and general files pertaining to international affairs. There are also files on NATO's: infrastructure, administration and organization, planning, equipment and supplies, and air defences.

Series consists of daily correspondence and messages detailing the activities of Lieutenant General Charles Foulkes during 1952-1956 when he served as the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee.

The special meetings are arranged in chronological order, and include minutes, extracts of minutes, agendas, correspondence, memoranda, messages and other documents. The miscellaneous documents are also arranged in chronological order and cover a wide variety of military subjects.

Series consists of information on the reduction of Commonwealth Forces in the Far East and the changing of bases through various sectors, mainly in the Korea mission of correspondence, memoranda, studies and recommendations, army unit list. Documents are between 8th of September 1953 to the 9 of October 1957, and include correspondence, memoranda, studies and recommendations and army unit listof October 1957.
