Schafer during his Second World War service, and includes hundreds of Associated Press, International News, ACME, and Canadian Army Photographs from the war in Europe and the Pacific. For Allies in Italy, used to tramping in the mud for days, and sleeping in foxholes filled with muddy water, a shower like this is considered a luxury item. A complicated fixture made from a long-range fuel tank and a system of pipes, nevertheless, it does the job, and personnel at the airfield where it is set up quick to take advantage of its facilities. Here, leading aircraftman C. Briggs gives a contented smile as he gives his back one last brisk rub.
