It features three stories of rescue by the Royal National Life-Boat Institution, a list of the 233 lifeboat stations under their management (in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland), the rescues of the institution in 1871, and a small summary of financials and awards received. Featured rescues are the wrecked schooner Hero, by the lifeboat Centurion of Walmer, Kent, United Kingdom on 16 October 1872; the French ketch the Zébre [sic, Zèbre], by the lifeboat Dr. Hatton of Littlestone, 26 October [1872]; and the Lily, trapped on the Hasborough Sands, by the lifeboat British Workman of Palling, Norfolk, 26 October 1872.
