Collection consists of various local history information and original documents compiled and collected by Norman Thomas Long over the course of his life living and working in Port Hope, Ontario. For more detailed information, please refer to file and item-level descriptions.

File consists of two (2) binders, containing photocopies of the articles written by C. H. J. Snider in the Toronto Telegram during 1932 and 1936. The articles focus on Port Britain.

File consists of seventeen (17) invoices addressed to Mrs. Schwartz/Swartz of Hillcrest (175 Dorset Street West), dating from 1901 to 1907. Businesses include, John Curtis, A. Nicholson, J. P. File consists of a "Ladies' Ticket" for a dinner given to Sir. Hector Louis Langevin, Minister of Public Works, on the occasion of his laying of the corner stone for the new post office. Directions are on the ticket of where the ladies may assemble and when they may enter the music hall; Complimentary Dinner for Mr. George Giddy at the St. Lawrence Hotel, January 25, 1902. Has menu on one side, and autographs on the other; Farewell Dinner for George B. Henwood at the Queen's Hotel, October 2, 1902. Includes menu and toast list; Old Countrymen's Banquet, Queen's Hotel, October 20, 1911. Includes menu and toast list; Port Hope Board of Trade Banquet, March 24, 1919. Includes menu and toast list.

Series consists of a thirty-six (36) page photograph album, with fifteen (15) pages of black and white and sepia coloured photographs. Photographs include Walton Street, Drill Shed on Queen Street, Midland Railway station, 1878 flood, rural scenes, unidentified family portraits. It also includes images from Cleveland.

Item is a copper printing plate of a map of Port Hope. The map has the town divided into NHL hockey leagues. This plate is believed to be connected to the Beaver Athletic Association little NHL hockey league, 1940s-1960s.

Item is a painting by Canadian actor and artist Robert Imbert Orchard (1909-1991). Oil, unframed painting. Written on verso: "Painted by Robert Imbert Orchard when a student in J. W. Beatty's class at Corbett's Mill, Port Hope. The "Julia B. Merrill" ship painted in Port Hope harbour 1928. She was afterwards burnt at Sunnyside August 1931 to amuse the public. One of the last lake schooners had been a rum runner, then was carrying coal." Orchard would have been 19 years of age when he painted this. He had returned to Port Hope for a visit in the summer of 1928, which coincided with the fire of 1928 at Trinity College School.

Item is a souvenir picture booklet of Port Hope. It includes eight (8) small pictures of Port Hope images. Images include: View from viaduct, town hall, Trinity College School, Port Hope High School, Canadian National Viaduct, Port Hope Hospital, Beach, Walton Street and View of Port Hope.

File consists of several hand-drawn maps of Port Hope and area, undated. Maps are extremely fragile and need conservation attention; Some maps intact.

Item is a book which was presented as an award. The book plate reads "This prize for proficiency in bookkeeping was presented to John S. Gibson a pupil in the United Grammar of Common Schools, Port Hope, Dec 24th 1866." The book includes maps and illustrations.

File consists of two (2) volumes: Book of Psalms and The New Testament (only Matthew and Mark). Both volumes are inscribed with the following message: "To my aunt Miss J T Stephenson A Souvenir of my visit to Canada in the summer of 1860" dated "Port Hope 28 Sep 60."
