The fonds consists of documents that were used by Isabel Campbell for her research for her book, Unlikely Diplomats. The Canadian Brigade in Germany, 1951-64. The majority of the files are duplicates from numerous archives and government departments, books and articles. There are 11 series:

Series consists of photocopied documents from the court martial records from JAG for 1952 to 1968. It includes court martial appeal records, section case cards for courts and for appeals, conduct sheets and records of services. There is also one file that contains court martial statistics from 1939 to 1999. The series is arranged in alphabetical order.

Subseries consists of documents from Record Group (RG 24) which includes records for the Department of National Defence. It includes memoranda, correspondence, papers, minute to meetings, briefs, messages, reports, plans and various other documents. Some of the major subjects include: maritime planning operation, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Fallex 62 operations and exercises, Radio Canadian Army Europe, Headquarters 2 Canadian Infantry Brigade, the Flag Officer Atlantic Coast, series. There are memoranda, correspondence, the RCN/RCAF Sea/Air Warfare committee, the Commander in Chief, Canadian Northwest Atlantic, Maritime Air Component (MAC) emergency war and mobilization, costal defence forces, and defences measures and plans for the seaward defence. The subseries is arranged by the Department’s Central Registry reference numbers and then by the volume number.

Subseries consists of documents from Record Group (RG 25) which includes records for the Department of External Affairs. It includes minutes, memoranda, correspondence, articles, messages, reports, command and supplementary instructions, despatches, newspaper clippings and various other documents. Some of the major subjects include: trade and economic affairs, reviews of events in Germany, instructions for the Canadian Infantry Brigade Group in Germany, the Canadians in the German press, the behavior of members of the Canadian Army in Germany, and foreign and military relations between Germany. Series consist of miscellaneous materials. It includes a chronology of the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), three letters to R. Hughes from Commodore ABF Fraser-Harris, drafts articles by Isabel Campbell and a request for a translation. The series is arranged chronologically.

Series consists of photocopied documents from the Erich Reichel collection. Most of the records are about the Canadian Infantry Brigade Group in West Germany. Includes: a report on the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group; photos of NATO and the Canadian Forces and translation of various documents from newspapers and articles. There are articles written by Erich Reichel and articles from various newspaper such as the “Padre’s Patter from The Kilt and Sporran. The series also includes newspaper clippings from The Beaver. The Newspaper of the Canadian Army in Europe, Der Kanadier, Soest Chronik and various other German newspapers. The files are arranged in chronological order.

Subseries consists of documents from the Document Collection of the Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH) which includes records from the Land/Air Warfare Committee fonds (73/1228), Robert Lewis Raymont fonds (73/1223), Jean V. Allard fonds (84/126), George Lindsey fonds (87/253) and Joint Staff fonds (2002/17). It includes minutes to meetings, reports, notes, correspondences, transcript of an interview with comments and various other documents. Subseries consists of documents from three Manuscript Groups (MG) - the Maurice Arthur Pope fonds (MG27- III F4), the Liberal Party of Canada fonds (MG28-IV3) and the Robert Alexander MacKay fonds (MG30-E159 ), - and from one Record Group (RG) - the Department of Finance fonds (RG19). Series 7 consists of transcript of oral history and interviews on several different subjects which includes the presence of troops in Europe, NATO and the Eisenhower administration. The interviews are with Robert Bowie, Gen. S. F. Clark, Gen. Charles Foulkes, Andrew Goodpaster, Lt-Gen. D. D. Graham, J. D. Hickerson, Air Chief Marshal F. R. Subseries consists of duplicate records from the Kardex Collection from the Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH). The subseries includes documents from the Chief of General Staff and consisting of instructions, correspondence, letters, reports, memoranda, minutes to meetings, articles, messages, war diary, liaison letters and various other documents. The major subject is the presence of the 27 CIB (Canadian Infantry Brigade ) in Europe during the 1950s and 1960s. The subseries is arranged by the Kardex reference number.
