    Administrative history

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) Silver Star Lodge No. 202 Milverton was instituted in Milverton, Perth County on August 29, 1877. The IOOF Silver Star Lodge No. 202 Milverton was dissolved in 1982 and remaining members transferred to IOOF Golden Rule Lodge No. 420 Monkton. The IOOF dates from the 17th century in England when the association was formed for the purpose of giving aid to people in need. Such a movement was deemed unusual at the time – thus the name “odd fellows.” The Order moved to North America and was established at Baltimore, Maryland, in April 1819. The women’s counterpart of the IOOF is called the Rebekah Lodge. There is a Junior Lodge for boys (ages 10-21 years) and Theta Rho club for girls of the same age. The IOOF and Rebekah Lodges support a wide range of programs including the Arthritis Society, World Hunger and Disaster Fund, Education Foundation fund, World Eye Bank and visual research, and the purchase of wheelchairs and walkers, canes and crutches for those in need of them.
