Administrative history

Howard Jordan Public School was located at 34 Percival Street, and opened in 1960. The first principal was Willis Dowler. The building, which began construction in 1958, was an L-shaped facility, originally built to accomodate 9 classrooms, a kindergarten, and a playroom. The school was named in honour of W. Howard Jordan, Supervisory Principal of the Port Hope Public Schools from 1934. HoJo, as the school was named by the students and staff, was closed in the spring of 2009, and the the student body was incorporated into the new Ganaraska Trail Public School.

Custodial history

Donated to the Port Hope Archives by P. Bolton, 2009. Files were created by the staff of Howard Jordan Public School in the course of daily activities. Upon the closure of the school, Peter Bolton rescued the records and donated them to the Port Hope Archives.
