Biographical history
Guy Patrick Thatcher started his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a Flight Cadet in 1955. He was released from the RCAF for air sickness in 1959, and immediately moved to the Armoured Corps to train as an officer. During his time with the Corps, he was offered a spot in Helicopter training. He proceeded to move his family to Alabama and Texas and received Helicopter training iat a number of U.S. Air Force bases. Afterwards Thatcher was sent to Munich for more helicopter training. He ended his flying career in Munich, after he had heard that he had been accepted to Queen’ University for Computing and Information Science in 1971.

Fonds consists of a memoir detailing Guy Patrick Thatcher’s experiences service in the Royal Canadian Air Force [RCAF] and the Armoured Corps. Thatcher described his rigorous Air Force training, along with the accumulating fear and respect of the responsibilities carried out through becoming a pilot. He recounted his engagement and marriage with his wife Carroll and memories of his three children. He continued to recount his experiences in several training centres, across the world, including Ontario, Alabama, Texas, Manitoba and Munich.
