Institutionele geschiedenis
Established by the Motz family the Guelph Tribune, originally known as the Royal Tribune, came into operation in August 1986. At that time, the newspaper operated under the umbrella of the Fairway Press which included the Kitchener - Waterloo Record, to which the Motz family held the majority of shares. The goal of the Motz family was to introduce a community paper to rival the Guelph Mercury.
Eventually the Motz family sold their ownership of the Tribune. In fact, it was purchased, sold, and owned by a number of companies during the paper’s existence including a period of ownership by Conrad Black's Hollinger Company. Today the newspaper operates under the Torstar Corporation umbrella and publishes twice a week although it started out as a weekly.
The Guelph Tribune, originally located at 40 Cork Street, moved to 27 Woodlawn Road West in 2005. Today the Tribune is based at 367 Woodlawn Road West.
