    Biographical history

    George Lees Douglas (1904-1990) was a Presbyterian minister and lecturer at Presbyterian College, Montreal, as well as Knox College, Toronto. He also served on numerous boards and committees of The Presbyterian Church in Canada, and upon retiring was appointed Librarian at Knox College, Toronto. He began his ministry at Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church, Niagara Falls, Ontario in May 1938. In January 1944 he enlisted in the Chaplaincy Services of the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1946, he was called to Knox Presbyterian Church, Woodstock, Ontario, where he remained as minister until 1961. During this time he was also Sessional Lecturer in Systematic Theology at Presbyterian College, Montreal, and in History and Philosophy of Religion at Knox College. He was appointed Librarian at Knox College in 1961. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Presbyterian College, Montreal, in 1967, and retired in 1973. Rev. Douglas passed away on July 8th, 1990

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of theological papers, addresses, lecture notes, correspondence, chaplaincy papers, research notes, association papers, and personal mementoes and photographs created or acquired by George Douglas. The theological papers document Dr. Douglas's activities as both a student and lecturer at Knox College, Toronto, and cover topics such as church history and church government. The chaplaincy papers consist of a small file of training notes on navy regulations and procedures, and also several chaplaincy booklets, including "The Armour of God" issued by the Committee on Chaplaincy Services of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. The research notes include Dr. Douglas' work on compiling biographical sketches on Daniel W. Eastman and George L. MacKay. The association papers include minutes, correspondence and reports of the Knox College Alumni, the Church Worship Association, and the Trinitarians.
