Biographical history

The son of William and Julia Gray, George Abbot Gray was born in Ireland sometime between 1824 and 1828. He emigrated to Canada and settled in Woodstock where he worked as a Barrister and Solicitor on Dundas St over the store, Parker & Hood during the 1860s and 1870s. On June 16, 1881, he married Louisa Maria Curry in London, Ontario where the couple settled, and he continued his legal practice.

George A. Gray passed away in London on February 4, 1890, and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Custodial history

The diaries were created by George Abbot Gray between the years 1857 and 1878 and were donated to the Woodstock Museum by an unknown donor. In 1988, the diaries were deaccessioned to the Woodstock Public Library and in October 2023, the records were transferred to the Oxford County Archives.

The fonds consists of twelve diaries created by George Abbot Gray between the years 1857 and 1878.
