        General note

        Francis Cochrane was born November 18, 1852 in Clarenceville, Quebec. He married Alice Lavinia Dunlop, daughter of Arunah Dunlop and Elizabeth Inglee on August 16, 1882, Pembroke, Ontario. The Cochrane's moved to Sudbury where Frank Cochrane became an active businessman and politician. He founded Cochrane Hardware Limited and invested in hydroelectricity. After losing his right leg in a train accident in January 1905, Francis Cochrane became the Member of the Provincial Parliament (MPP) for East Nipissing (1905-1911) and was appointed Minister of Lands and Mines. In 1911, he became the Federal Member of Parliament (MP) for Railways and Canals and held the position until 1917. Frank Cochrane died September 22, 1919 in Ottawa, Ontario.
