Administrative history

La Pitoune, a Franco-Ontarian socio-cultural center, was housed on the premises of the University of Hearst (third floor). It was established by a group of young people interested in promoting artistic development in all its forms. Engaged in many spheres of artistic, cultural and social activities, La Pitoune was very active in the Hearst area during the 1970s. It offered, a variety of workshops: plastic arts, ceramics, folk and social dance, music, painting, photography, sculpture and theater. The socio-cultural center also organized art fairs, art camps, musical presentations (including Renée Claude's show Hearst Carnival in 1972), exhibitions, puppet shows, and summer camps entitled Potion Magique. La Pitoune was part of the cultural effervescence that characterized French Ontario in the 1970s.
