Biographical history
Ernest Gosselin was born in Disraeli, QC, on May 2, 1894. Before moving to Ontario, he was a lumber merchant and owned a sawmill in La Sarre, Abitibi. In 1942, he travelled to the Hearst area, purchased Arthur Lecours’ sawmill in Carey Lake and founded the company Ernest Gosselin Lumber Manufacturer. His 10 children gradually joined him and worked in the mill, the forest, the cookhouse and the company’s store and office. In 1950, he sold the sawmill to his sons who founded Gosselin Brothers, which later became Gosselin Lumber, in Calstock. Ernest Gosselin then settled in Geraldton, where he invested in a hotel, an outfitter camp and bought several land properties. He died on December 23, 1965.
