        History

        Douglas Fisher was born on September 19th, 1919 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. A World War Two veteran, Mr. Fisher graduated from the University of Toronto and went to Port Arthur to teach history at the Port Arthur Collegiate Institute. In 1957, Fisher entered politics and claimed the 1957 general election in an upset victory; as an M.P. for the Port Arthur District, Fisher served until 1965. After an attempt at a political comeback in 1968, Fisher joined the Toronto Sun as its Ottawa columnist. There, he served until his retirement in 2006. Douglas Fisher passed away in 2009, one day shy of his 90th birthday.
