Biographical history
F.W. Haultain (1821-1882) was born in Brussels, Belgium. He was the son of Major General Francis Haultain. Haultain was educated at the Royal Military College, Woolwich, England. After coming to Canada, he served many years and then retired as Lieutenant-Colonel in 1860. He settled in Peterborough, Canada West, and immediately entered political life and won the general election of 1861.
