    Biographical history

Frederick John French (1847-1924) was a lawyer in Prescott Ontario, a conservative member of the Legislative Assembly for the ridings of South Grenville and Grenville from 1879-1890, and President of the Grenville County Historical Society.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of records arising from French's law practice (consisting mostly of legal case files), as well as various records collected by French in the study of the local history of Grenville, including original manuscripts, typescript copies of printed documents, and newspaper clippings. Fonds also includes records of the Grenville County Historical Society, which contains histories of various individuals and families which were prepared by the Society. Local history records are arranged into series by subject, with series then arranged alphabetically, with a miscellaneous series at the end. Miscellaneous records include wills, notes, invitations, marriage certificates, agreements, accounts, leases, correspondence, reports, funeral notices, petitions, and circular letters.
