Administrative history
The Epworth League is a Methodist young adult association for individuals ages eighteen to thirty-five. It was formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1889 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, predecessor of the United Methodist Church. The purpose of the League was to encourage and cultivate Christ-centred character in young adults around the world through community building, missions and spiritual growth.
The Epworth League of Dereham Centre was formed on April 22nd, 1909 in the basement of the Methodist Church. Rev. S.E. Couch was elected Hon. President and Mr. E. Adamson was elected President. Meetings would consist of hymns, prayers, and biblical lessons with such topics as “The spoil of the Cross”; “The Life of Frances E. Willard”; “Why some men and women do not succeed in life”; and “Why I believe in the bible”. The League also had a Social Committee and a Literary Department.
