"Boys' Business: A Boy's Adventures with Birds and Beasts"

Item is an edition of "Boys' Business: A Boy's Adventures with Birds and Beasts," 2015. The original manuscript was written by Charles Haultain and his mother, c1910. It was discovered, and published, by his daughter, Barbara in 2015. The book contains the musings of a young boy while hunting, fishing, and enjoying the life of a young naturalist in the area surround Port Hope, and Hope Township. It also includes sketches and watercolours created by Charles Haultain.

Fonds documents Craig Campbell’s interest and involvement in the conservation of Canada’s natural heritage. Textual records consist of correspondence related to his research and conservation efforts; correspondence related to his work for CARCS; correspondence with conservation agencies, academics and scientists from various institutions across North America; published and unpublished manuscripts written by Campbell, research materials, field notes, reports, newspaper clippings and photocopies of publications with annotations. Graphic records include photographs, slides, x-rays, and drawings of amphibians, reptiles and observation sites. Cartographic records include diagrams and maps. Dr. Ellie Prepas fonds

The records consist primarily of several decades of research data from the study of water quality in lakes. Prepas, who is Professor Emeritus of Natural Resource Management at Lakehead University, was also formerly employed at the University of Alberta. Much of the research was conducted on Alberta lakes, with some performed in Northwestern Ontario as well.

The records also include some teaching notes and course materials, as well as some correspondence and administrative material.

Environmental Site Assessment Records

This series includes original completed Environmental Site Assessments and Audits which have been prepared for properties in which the Corporation has some interest (e.g. properties to be sold for back taxes, city-owned lands being considered for sale and lands being investigated for purchase).

In 2002, the position of Environmental Auditor, the creator of these records, was moved to the Realty Services Division from the Transportation and Works Environment Division.

Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority Pamphlets, Booklets and Papers

Series consists of seven (7) documents. (1) Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority pamphlet featuring a map, a description of what they do and different conservation areas in the area. (2) A booklet outlining the programs that the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority is responsible for (3) A pamphlet titled "A Conservation Services Program" designed to "assist landowners in planning and carrying out resource management project" (4) Ganaraska Region Conservation Update Newsletter, Volume 1, Number 2. Hazel Bird fonds

Fonds pertains to the work of Hazel Bird and her involvement with the Eastern Bluebird restoration project in Northumberland County. Included are 30 bird box observation journals, publications and newsletters of the Willow Beach Young Naturalists and the Willow Beach Field Naturalists, newspaper articles and information regarding the development of the bluebird project, statistical records, reports, and educational materials. The bird box observation journals also include notes about native flowers and other birds observed when checking the boxes. Also included are hundreds of letters which were sent to the Willow Beach Field Naturalists Club of Port Hope and to Bird requesting copies of the pattern and specifications of the bluebird nest box mentioned in two newspaper articles, Toronto Telegram, 14 May 1971 and Toronto Star, 19 September 1972; in these letters, many authors provide details of their experiences with bluebirds in various Ontario locations. Also included is a removable USB memory stick containing maps and lists which pertain to the locations of bluebird sightings/boxes referred to in the various statistical records and reports.

Fonds consists of 10 notebooks which capture Jack Oughton’s personal and professional life during his time as a student at the Univeristy of Toronto and his days as an employee at the Royal Ontario Museum of Zoology. The diaries describe his daily life along with observations about nature (birds, insects, plants) around Southern Ontario. Oughton’s diaries document his work with J. R. Dymond at the Royal Ontario Museum of Zoology and his participation with the Brodie Club and other naturalist clubs. A number of diaries document trips made to the Arctic, Baffin Island, Lake Nipissing, the Bay of Quinte and Trent Valley.

Maitland Goldwin Gould fonds

Fonds reflects Gould's bird watching activities in the North Bay area over the course of nearly forty years. The fonds consists of records documenting his daily birding observations from 1941 to 1979, with some interruptions in 1954-1957. Records include monthly reports of sightings, annual statistics, bird and mammal species occurrence records, and lists of species sighted. The majority of Gould's observations were made in "a rectangle which extends roughly thirty miles east and west and twelve miles north and south of North Bay." Some of his usual observation places within this area included his home on McIntyre Street, Peninsula Road on Trout Lake, the shore of Lake Nipissing west of the Government Wharf, and Eloy's Farm. He also frequently carried out observations while on walks, drives, and boat rides in and around North Bay.
