Administrative history
According to the publication Embro and Zorra 1858 – 1983: A Pictorial, the Embro Congregational Church was formed in 1872 following an obscure dispute over doctrine. The members originally use the recently vacated Presbyterian “auld kirk” in the village, before erecting a church of their own in 1877 at a cost of $6,000. This church was built directly across from the “ault kirk” and was used until 1904, when a fire destroyed the structure. It was quickly replaced, a year later, by a new building, which would later serve the Knox Presbyterian Church.
The members of the Congregational Church continued in their own building until1925, when they joined the church union, and was renamed Ebenezer United Church.
Eventually the congregation amalgamated with other Embro congregations and the building was sold to the local Presbyterian church. The congregation is believed to have closed around 1943.
