Elmwood United Church was established 1925, formerly a Union church with a Presbyterian affiliation. Elmwood Methodist Circuit was established ca. 1884 and included Crawford, Lamlash and Mooresburg; it was discontinued in 1925 when the United Church was formed. North Brant Presbyterian Church was active from at least 1854; in 1922 it joined with West Bentinck Presbyterian Church and Elmwood Methodist Church to form Elmwood Union Church, with Presbyterian affiliation. Crawford Presbyterian Church was established 1878; it joined the United Church in 1925. West Bentinck Presbyterian Church was established 1860; in 1922 it joined with North Brant Presbyterian Church and Elmwood Methodist Church to form Elmwood Union Church, with Presbyterian Church affiliation. Crawford United Church was established 1925, formerly Presbyterian. Lamlash United Church was established 1925, formerly Methodist; it closed ca. 1965.

Preaching commenced to German-speaking Canadians in the Elmwood area in 1866, in Bentinck Township. Zion church was erected at Elmwood in 1879, and was one charge on a circuit that consisted of six points (Bentinck, Elmwood, Chesley, Hanover, Brant and Walkerton). In 1968 Zion became part of the United Church of Canada.
