Administrative history
The Elgin County Land Division Committee was established in 1971 and is responsible for reviewing and making decisions relating to petitions for land severance. Most lower-tier municipalities in Elgin County opted to divest their responsibility for adjudicating land severance applications to the Elgin County Land Division Committee in 1971, with the exception of the Township of Southwold, Township of Yarmouth, Village of Port Stanley, and Village of Belmont, which continued to operate their own Land Division Committees/ Committees of Adjustment until finally joining the Elgin County Land Division Committee on January 1, 1974.
