Poole was born in Abington, Berkshire, England and educated in London, England. In 1866, he emigrated to Canada and, in 1876, moved to St. Catharines. There, in 1900, he opened a studio specialising in portraiture and landscape photography. In addition, he sold supplies for amateur photographers. Poole's work was published in the Toronto Globe and he won numerous photographic awards during his career.
