In 1923, the University establishes the École de pédagogie de l’Université d’Ottawa. In 1927, its role in the training and education of Francophone teachers for the province is recognized by the Minister of Education of Ontario. The Minister of Education and University establishes the École normale de l’Université d’Ottawa, better known as the Collège de formation pédagogique de l'Université d'Ottawa. In 1953, the programme of studies is extended to two years. In 1969, the Minister of Education authorizes and gives the responsibility of the programs of the École normale back to the University. It will create programmes for teacher training at both the elementary and secondary levels. The École normale is then integrated to the Faculty of Education. Ever since, the Faculty assures the training of Francophone educators for the schools of Ontario, offering the Teacher’s Certificate of Ontario, and a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

The fonds contain files which document the functions of the École Normale. It includes yearbooks: Annuaires de l'École normale (1933-1965), Prélude (1965-1968), Sur le sentier (1968-1970), registers of student’s marks (1959-1965) and student statistics (1964-1968). It also includes photographs of students, teachers, buildings, and activities of the École normale reproduced mainly from the yearbooks.
