Fonds F1913 - East Korah - Maxwell Pastoral Charge (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) fonds

East Korah - Maxwell Pastoral Charge was formed in 1963 when Sault Ste. Marie Suburban Pastoral Charge was discontinued, with East Korah and Maxwell United Churches forming a new pastoral charge. On June 30, 2000, the pastoral charge became a single-point charge when East Korah United Church amalgamated with Maxwell United Church. The amalgamated congregation continued to use the East Korah building at 4 Fourth Line East at the corner of People's Road in Sault Ste. Marie. It is still an active congregation of the United Church of Canada.
Sault Ste. Marie Suburban Pastoral Charge was formed in 1925; it inlcuded East Korah, Prince, Tarentorus, Maxwell and Trunk Road (just for the year 1941). Prince United Church in Sault Ste Marie left the charge after 1942. The pastoral charge disbanded in 1963.
East Korah United Church was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. The Methodists began meeting as early as 1878 with the congregation part of the Korah and Garden River Mission. A church building was constructed in 1896 and this building stood until 1976 when a new building was constructed at the same location. It disbanded in 2000 with the amalgamation with East Korah United Church to form East Korah-Maxwell United Church.
Maxwell United Church, located at Third Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, was established in 1925, formerly a union church. Originally formed as a Presbyterian Church, Maxwell church was built in 1920 and the congregation held its first service on September 12, 1920. Sometime between 1920 and 1925, it became a Union church. It disbanded in 2000 with the amalgamation with East Korah United Church to form East Korah-Maxwell United Church.
