Biographical history

W.E. Hurlburt (fl. 1921-1951) was a physician and ornithologist who resided in Vineland, Ont. for much of his life. In 1936, he was in line for honours from the Avicultural Society of America for being the first to breed certain species of foreign birds. By 1951, Dr. Hurlburt had been successful at rearing between 30 to 40 different species.

Custodial history

Fonds acquired by Dr. Richard Knapton, Long Point Bird Observatory, prior to 1990. The material was donated to Special Collections and Archives, James A. Gibson Library, Brock University by Dr. Knapton in September 1990.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of correspondence accumulated by Dr. W.E. Hurlburt during his life and career as an ornithologist. Fonds consists of the following series: Correspondence Jan. 1941-Jan. 1949 Correspondence Jan. 1937-December 1940 Correspondence March 1930-December 1936 Undated Correspondence
