The Directorate of Operational Research (Navy) was responsible to the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air and Warfare). His duties included:
• Being responsible for ensuring that the work of all operational research personnel assigned to the RCN was of a suitable scientific standard;
• Advised the Naval Member of the Joint Operational Research Committee on the suitable employment of the operational research personnel assigned to the RCN.
• Acted as a direct link between DRB [Defence Research Board] and operational research personnel assigned to the RCN in matters relating to welfare, careers, promotions, etc.; and
• Dealt directly with DRB on matters related to the obtaining or withdrawing of operational research personnel.

Fonds consists of a report “ASW [Anti-Submarine Warfare] effectiveness of the RCN [Royal Canadian Navy] destroyer escort, 1962-65 by AC Lauiston, KR Kavanagh and J Langis. The report describes a study of the ASW effectiveness of RCN destroyer escorts of the 1962-1965 period. Also includes an unclassified version of the first chapter.
