Administrative history
The Directorate of Naval Aircraft Requirements (DNAR) existed from 1960 until 1964. Responsible to the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Air & Warfare), DNAR activities were divided into the following sections: Anti-submarine Warfare Aircraft; Fighter Aircraft; Facilities; and Air Weapons. Its terms of reference were to: Examine and advise on Naval Staff requirements and related matters with respect to Naval Aviation in the fields of airborne vehicules and ancillary equipment, airborne weapon equipment characteristics, aircraft facilities and aircraft modifications; Co-ordinate, prepare as appropriate, and revise detailed staff characteristics for naval aircraft in accordance with the approved requirements of the Directorate of Naval Operational Requirements; Advise on air personnel qualifications; Coordinate Naval Headquarters Policy, as Chairman of the Aircraft Characteristics Panel, concerning staff requirements for Naval Aviation equipment. DNAR was a member of the Ships Characteristics Panel, the Aircraft Characteristics Panel, the Trans-Canada McKee Trophy Award Sub-Committee, the Electronic Warfare Committee, the Royal Canadian Navy/Personnel Research Committee Sub-Committee on Noise Problems, and the Sea/Air Warfare Sub-Committee. Following a re-organization of the Canadian Forces Headquarters in 1964, the Directorate of Maritime Forces Operational Requirements/Air probably took over the responsibilities of the Directorate of Naval Aircraft Requirements when it ceased to exist.
