The Director General Transportation in the 1980s and 1990s was responsible for:

  1. Transportation plans, systems, methods and procedures;
  2. Motor transport policies, regulations and orders;
  3. Movement policies, regulations and orders;
  4. Administrative motor transport requirements and establishments for bases;
  5. Transportation requirements for field force units;
  6. Organization, training, equipment, role and employment of transportation components of commands;
  7. Canadian Forces postal services;
  8. Technical training and career development of transportation personnel; and
  9. Financial estimates for transportation activities.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of the War Book for the Director General Transportation. Includes chapters on:

• the concept of transportation and postal operations;
• aim and scope;
• policy, deployment and support of forces, and responsibilities re transportation; and
• policy, responsibilities and supplementary postal services abroad.

The aim of the war book was to provide direction for transportation and postal support of the Canadian Forces during periods of crisis, emergency and war.
