Administrative history
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is established in the 1947 within the School of Applied Sciences of the Faculty of Arts. In the 1980's, the Department offers a co-operative programme with industries starting in the second year of the baccalaureate programme. In 1983, the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees are offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering.

The fonds contain files which document the functions of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It includes students' files (1975-1989, 1991) and a report : "Report to be submitted to the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies on the Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa" (Nov. 1980).
