Biografie
Denis Smith (1932- ), educator and editor, was born in Edmonton, Alberta and educated at McGill and Oxford, receiving the degree of M. Litt. from the latter in 1959. After a brief time teaching at the University of Toronto, Smith was engaged first as registrar and then professor of political science at York University, 1960-1963. In 1964 he joined the faculty of Trent University as associate professor of political science and as Vice President. In 1982 he moved to the University of Western Ontario where he served as dean of social science. Smith was an editor of the 'Journal of Canadian studies,' (1966-1975) and of the 'Canadian forum,' (1975-1979). He was also president of the Canadian Periodical Publishers' Association (1975-1977). Smith is the author of several books including, 'Bleeding hearts, bleeding country.' (1971), and 'Gentle patriot,' (1973), the latter a biography of Walter Gordon.

Fonds consists of correspondence, grant information and research materials relating to the biography of John Diefenbaker written by Professor Denis Smith and published in 1995. Fonds includes interview tapes and transcriptions of interviews with John Diefenbaker, Dalton Camp and Davie Fulton.
