Administrative history
The County of York Law Association was established at a meeting held at Osgoode Hall on December 17th, 1885, and was incorporated on December 30th, 1885. The purpose of the Association was "the formation and support of a law library for the use of its members to be kept and maintained in the court house in the said City of Toronto and to provide for the general interests of the profession and good feeling and harmony among members". In 1996 the name of the Association was changed to the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers Association. The name of the Association changed again in 2004 to the Toronto Lawyers Association.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of records created by the County of York Law Association. Included are photographs of past presidents of the Association, three hand-printed membership lists for the years 1887 and 1889-1890, and a broadside listing the Declaration of Incorporation and By-laws of the Association. Included are photographs of: J.T. Small, Hugh T. Kelly, David T. Symons, Christopher Robinson, George F. Shepley, J.K. Kerr, James J. Foy, Charles H. Ritchie, Daniel Urquhart, Angus MacMurchy, J.B. Clarke, J.A. Worrell, Charles Moss, Hamilton Cassels, Dyce W. Saunders, William Davidson, J.H. Macdonald, and W. Mortimer Clark.

The records in the fonds were donated to the Law Society of Upper Canada Archives by the County of York Law Association in 1985.
