A unit of the University of Ottawa Contingent of the Canadian Officers' Training Corps (COTC) is established in October 1939. It consists of one company with headquarters and three platoons. In January 1940, the Contingent into a battalion. In 1941, it has 558 members. Its recruits come primarily from the University of Ottawa and Saint Patrick's College. The goal of the Contingent is to train Canadian Non-Permanent Active Militia officers and to simultaneously allow them to achieve university education. More than 1000 members of the Contingent participated in the Second World War and more than a hundred are either injured or killed. In 1946, the Training Corps offer a post-war programme. In 1967, according to a study, the Department of National Defense decides to abolish the Militia. On May 31, 1968, the University of Ottawa Contingent is disbanded.

Scope and content
The fonds contain files which documents the University of Ottawa Contingent of the Canadian officer's training corps (COTC). It includes annual reports (1949-1968), Historical notes, training manuals, guest books, correspondence, lists of personnel and news clippings. The fonds also consist of photographs of military personnel, training activities, and a film of a military review in Valcartier (Québec).
