Custodial history

The records were found in a box marked "Herb's 1937-38" on the second floor of an abandoned farmhouse on the Constable property, Concession 6, Lot 21, by Christopher Thorne during a stage 3 archaeological assessment in 2011. Records remained in his custody until their transfer to the Archives in 2017.

Scope and content

Collection is comprised of school records belonging to Bruce, Herbert, Mary and George Constable. Records consist of assignments, test and examination papers, notebooks, day planners, textbooks, a pocket dictionary, daily attendance registers for Vaughan Township School S.S. No. 9 (Vellore School) and various handwritten notes. Also included are miscellaneous private records such as church programs, a playbill for a performance, a booklet containing baking recipes, newspapers and periodicals, an auto insurance card issued to John W. Constable and a box of candy.

Physical condition

Collection is in somewhat poor physical condition. Most of the textual records are faded and torn. The textbook spines and binding are fragile and loose. Careful handling of the material is required.

Immediate source of acquisition

Donated to the City of Vaughan Archives by Christopher Thorne in February of 2017.
