"Echoes from the Minute Books: Notes on the Proceedings of the Board of Police of Port Hope, 1834-1849"

File consists of an essay written by H. R. S. Ryan on the 100th anniversary of the Baldwin Act. The essay was published in "Ontario History" in 1950 under the title "Echoes from the Minute books: Notes on the proceedings of the Board of police of Port Hope, 1834-1849" pages 184-204. The essay details early history of the town and its residents. Footnotes are given to document sources. It also includes the original transcript of the essay by H. R. S. Ryan.

It is inscribed: "Ted [Watts] with love xxx on his 70th Birthday - Jean."

Item is a copy of "In My Garden" by Jean Kilby Rorison, part of the Ryerson Poetry Chap-Books. Also included are 20 additional pages believed to be in Jean Kilby Rorison's hand-writing with poems. Some typed pages. Also newspaper clippings with her poems. Note included with the holding indicates the pieces were collected before 1954.

Item is an article entitled "It was quite a life" recounting Margaret Sproat's life, 3 Jan 1978 Port Hope Evening Guide. Article with interview with Margaret Sproat Wilson, widow of Ralph Choate Wilson and her involvement with the family business - the Port Hope Evening Guide until it was sold to Albert Schultz.

"Memoirs of My Life" by George Wilson

Series consists of a type-written copy of "Memoirs of My Life" by George Wilson, c1862. It was written in Montreal, and dedicated to Sarah (his wife). The series also includes one edition of the Port Hope Evening Guide (17 Jun 1929), as published by Geo. Wilson.

"Picturesque Port Hope" Booklet

Item is a copy of the publication "Picturesque Port Hope," c. 1910. "Dickenson 28 Inniswood Drive" written on front, and signed "H. Reeve" on back. Believed to have belonged to the Dickenson family and given to Mr. Reeve.

"Port Hope Historical Sketches"

Item is a 1st edition, 1901 copy of "Port Hope Historical Sketches" signed by the author W. Arnot Craick in 1963. Also included is a copy of the prospectus that was created about 1900 for advertising purposes.

Item is an edition of "The Anchor" the newsletter of the Northumberland Branch of the Navy League of Canada, November 2009. The Navy League hosts meetings out of the RCSCC Skeena, located at 17 Mill Street South, Port Hope.

File consists of five (5) issues of "The Land Registrar" newsletter, 1977-1981; and copies of the Registrars of Deeds Association of Ontario, Toronto September 19, 1960. #25 East Durham registrar L. R. Hankingram; Newsclipping of Lloyd Patterson and Jack Sylvester, 1973. Lloyd Patterson, former registrar for East Durham, is featured in several issues of the newsletter.

"The Polar Seas and Regions" Book

Item is a book which was presented as an award. The book plate reads "This prize for proficiency in bookkeeping was presented to John S. Gibson a pupil in the United Grammar of Common Schools, Port Hope, Dec 24th 1866." The book includes maps and illustrations.
